Yesterday I began what will be a two-year internship at Brookside Church here in Omaha. I will be working mainly with our lead pastor, focusing on life groups, but will probably dabble in other ministry areas.
One of the exciting emphases for me will be discipling ten leaders of our married life groups. I’ll be helping these men develop their relationship with Jesus, guide them in leading their group, and help them identify potential leaders so we might multiply out to form new groups.
My ultimate pursuit in ministry is to shepherd God’s people as a pastor in a local church, overseeing vision, theological development, and preaching. I feel this internship will give me ample opportunities to gain experience in these areas. I will begin a masters of arts in theological studies via Liberty Theological Seminary (online) this August. It’s a blessing to be able to study seminary coursework while remaining at my home church. Our pastors will also be feeding me books and resources to study in preparation for full-time ministry. I trust the Lord that he’ll use this training/education plan my church and I have created for his glory and my development. I feel the church at large is moving away from seminary-based training toward church-based training for pastors. Personally, I feel that is more biblical, more efficient, and more effective.
In order to do this internship, my wife and I raised financial support for my salary so I could quit my job and do this full time. If God would so move you to consider partnering with us, please check out our ministry partner page for information on how to give.
Thanks for reading. When you stop by or think of me, we would greatly appreciate your prayers for joy in the Lord, holiness in character, development in competency and convictions, and clarity in vision for the future.
