Things have been pretty quiet around the blog because we’re in a bit of a transition. My seminary and internship programs ended in May, our second daughter was born almost four weeks early, also in May,, our apartment lease expired last week, and I have been in the midst of searching for a pastoral position in an evangelical church. All of these roads have intersected in such a timely way to demonstrate God’s gracious kindness to our family.
That last transitional element–searching for a pastoral position–was the capstone to this crossroads of grace. For the past two years, we have trusted that God, in his grace, would provide a position for me in the summer of 2013. Oh, how he richly provided! I am delighted to announce that on June 18, I accepted the call to serve as associate pastor at Grace Chapel of Clifton Park, New York. Clifton Park is outside of Albany, the capital. We will be moving from Omaha to Clifton Park in August.
During my time in college, God called me into ministry, but I was not sure what I was called to do. Not too long after this initial sense of call, I realized that gospel ministry in the local church was where God wanted me. After graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I spent nearly three years as a Campus Crusade staff member and over a year doing various work in human services. During my time with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, I raised financial support to do a pastoral internship at our church, Brookside Church, starting in May 2011. This internship (the first of its kind–I was a guinea pig) was a two-year program designed to give me an overall picture of pastoral ministry. About halfway into the internship, in the spring of 2012, I entered pastoral search mode. After searching hundreds and hundreds of churches and applying for dozens and dozens of positions, God was gracious to lead us to Grace Chapel (and Grace Chapel to us!).
This story is a wonderful testimony of God’s grace, and I will write more about the experience in the coming weeks. I’ll also write about some hopes I have for this blog going forward. If you are a frequent reader or subscriber, please forgive me if posts are few and far between in August and September as we move and settle in to our new home in New York.
Thank you all for reading. You are a blessing to me, and I hope the content of this blog is a blessing to you. If you have a minute, or anytime you think of us, pray for God’s kind mercies as we move and begin ministering to the people of Grace Chapel and Clifton Park.
Glory to God Alone,
